Accident at Dismissal
Dear Parents,
At dismissal today, a second grade student was injured by a moving car, mid-block on Thorwood Avenue. Thankfully, the driver was driving cautiously in a school zone (not on a cell phone, not speeding, aware of walking/biking students). As a precautionary measure, the student was transported by ambulance. Luckily, the result of the injury is "just" a bruised knee. I know everyone is breathing easier knowing that the accident did not result in a significant injury.
As always, these horrible moments make us pause and think about what we can do to prevent them from happening. Please remind your children to cross at crosswalks or intersctions. Remind them to look both ways before crossing. When driving in a school zone, make sure you are very mindful while driving. Adhere to the speed limits; stay off of your cell phone.
Yours in safety,
Susan Kick
