Welcome to the 2013-14 school year! We are all looking forward to another rewarding and exciting school year at Central Elementary. Whether your family is new to Central School or your children are returning to us after the summer, we look forward to developing a strong home-school relationship. Our talented staff and devoted PTA will work together to address your children’s social, emotional, and academic needs.
I encourage you to refer frequently to our district, school and PTA websites this year for important information, and hope you will find that accessing all of your school information is only a click away. In fact, we aggregated all of our "Back to School" information on the school website under one heading titled, Fall 2013 Information. Moreover, all of our teachers included a “Welcome Back Letter” so you can easily learn more about your child’s teacher and his/her classroom.
Our school goals for this coming year will be based on the district’s strategic plan, CONNECTED. This includes the second year of implementing the Second Step Program in all of the classrooms. Second Step focuses on social-emotional learning. You can learn more as parents by visiting the website at: www.secondstep.org. In order to align with the research and work that CRC has done last year, we will also be researching and designing a space at Central School for innovative learning. This will include repurposing the computer lab and adjoining classroom to create a flexible learning space. We envision that the space will be “an adaptable space for learning that creates a student-focused, collaborative environment that creates and empowers learners, and provides boundless opportunities for growth. The space can also provide an avenue for students to improve intrinsic motivation for learning via opportunities for self-directed learning experiences” (CRC Innovative Learning Spaces Report). Other highlights this year include a focus on the Common Core Standards and the Characteristics of Successful Learners. Lastly, we are in our final year reviewing the current social studies curriculum and revising it to align with 21st Century learning and expectations.
I continue to be impressed with the quality and extent of parental involvement at Central. Central Elementary School is dedicated to creating a climate that meets the needs of each child and ensures each student becomes an enthusiastic and successful life-long learner. I hope you are energized for another fabulous year of fun and achievement for our students and our community. Your contributions to your child’s education at home and at school are sincerely valued and greatly appreciated.
I am always connected by phone and email about school happenings, and I will be happy to respond to your email queries. My door is always open so please stop by whenever you get a chance.
Warmest Regards Always,
